James Matson

MA, LPC, LPCC

Growing up, I always knew that I was different. Intuitive, creative, sensitive and emotional, I knew that I didn't fit the mold I was given but I could not understand why. Through engaging with my own experience of gender and sexuality, I was able to figure out how all the pieces of myself fit together and enable me to live fully and authentically in my world.

As a therapist, I work with others who feel that they do not fit - those of use who have felt discomfort in ourselves, in our families, in our communities. I believe that in order to truly understand who we are and who we want to become, we must explore the experiences that we’ve had and look at the impact they have had on us. Once we understand what we have to work with, we are free to chose the best ways to move forward on the journey.

In working with clients I help people understand themselves and how they fit into their world more fully. My professional and clinical experience has focused on questions of gender and sexuality, identity development, trauma and abuse, sex and sexual relationships, faith and spirituality, and working with parents and families of gender-creative children. My goal as a therapist is to support all of who you are - individually, relationally, and in community.

I believe that we all have the ability to live fully and authentically as who we want to be. If you have reached a point in your life that you are seeking insight, direction, or support as you walk your path, please reach out. I look forward to working with you as you move forward on your journey!
